Enrichment Offerings - 2nd Grade
JCDS is proud to partner with the Knight School to allow students to explore the classic game of chess. Lessons will include strategy, gameplay, and other skills. Students will exercise their critical thinking skills through a variety of chess-based games and activities.

Come take a deeper dive into the books in our JCDS Library with the Library Story Seekers program! Students will enjoy having picture books read aloud to them and get to "book taste" age-appropriate chapter books. Best of all, our Sharks will have the opportunity to sign out tons more books from the JCDS Library each week!

In Lego League, students explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) concepts and basic robotics. Students will research real-world engineering and environmental problems and work in teams to design, build, and program robotic solutions. Through this fun process, students will learn to collaborate, explain their ideas, and test solutions through trial and error.

Hola! Come dive deeper into Spanish the language and continue developing new language skills, while learning about Spanish culture. Students will deepen their understanding of basic spanish concepts, and move onto more advanced songs, terminology and language skills. Learning Spanish at an early age is a great way to explore the diversity of other cultures.

JCDS is excited to once again partner with TNT Gymnastics. TNT Gymnastics focuses on building self-esteem, and teamwork, and creating a fun environment for kids to learn about fitness. Their Mobile Movements program allows students to participate in gymnastics without leaving campus. Their mission is to engage with each child individually, create a safe, fun, and exciting atmosphere.

Yoga is a relaxing option for students after school. This class is designed to increase flexibility, coordination, strength, and muscle control. Students will learn individual and partner yoga poses, practice mindfulness exercises, and develop positive self-esteem.

Come join the JCDS Sharks on the Run group for a fun, active, and engaging running club with your friends. Students will work on proper preparation, stretching, stride, and running technique, as well as pacing and gross motor skills.

Come get some extra time in the water with the Sharks Mini-Swim Team. Students will get to work in a small group setting to develop stroke technique, physical fitness and general water skills. Please note that all students enrolled must pass a swim readiness assessment to join the program. This is not a 'learn to swim program' but rather a technique program for current, proficient swimmers. This program will have sections offered on Wednesday and Friday, following the weeks of the PE swimming unit in the Fall and Spring. This program will be led by Coach Erin Crabtree of the Deerwood Swim team, as well as supervised by a Red Cross certified Lifeguard.

The JCDS Sports Academy is a great way for students to explore multiple active options in a non-competitive setting.

Calling all Mini Singers! Junior Chorus is an introductory choral program for young singers. Students will participate in a variety of singing games and exercises that will develop ear training, music literacy, and ensemble performance skills. This program is a good match for any child who loves to sing.

Extended Care
Jacksonville Country Day School provides after school Extended Care for all students, including those in the pre-school program. As an extension of the regular school day, our program seeks to provide care that will compliment and support the mission of JCDS.
The Extended Care program includes daily homework time, physical and outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and a nutritious snack.
